It it gives me great pleasure to announce that Paul Mallinson is joining the EKY team, which means we actually are a team now. Go team!
Paul is a games editorial veteran, with a history that stretches back to the early 1990s, before mobile phones were commonplace, social networks existed and when the internet was still dragging itself out of the primordial tech ooze.
Those were dark prehistoric times, of course, when lumbering beasts called magazines plodded across the land dominating opinions. Paul helped guide a few of them to success (PC Power, PC Player), before jumping astride the mighty PC Zone – the T-Rex of PC games mags – and urging it towards the 21st Century.
I joined PC Zone magazine in June 1997, thanks due in part to Paul’s recommendation, where I proceeded to have the time of my life for five glorious years, working alongside some of the most talented people in games writing, among them of course Mr. Mallinson himself.
Paul (or Mallo, as we used to call him) remains to this day a prolific taker of screenshots, a veritable font of gaming and publishing knowledge, a celebrated designer and photographer and one of the most passionate gamers you could ever hope to meet – as his 619 logged hours in Skyrim attest. That’s 619 hours sans mods, by the way, which is bordering on obsessive. In a good way.
Given’s Paul’s appreciation for games that are a little darker than your typical survival sandbox, we are considering expanding the remit of the site to more formally cover roguelikes and horror titles, as well as survival and openworld games. We shall get to amending the About page if and when a decision is made.
