Hello Games, which has been under intense social media siege since the release of its procedural space exploration game No Man’s Sky (official site), has at last raised its collective head above the parapet, by announcing the imminent release of the game’s most significant patch to date, The Foundation Update.
The update – the game’s eighth code plaster in the three months since launch – should be applied sometime over the next week and will lay the “foundations for base building” and put in place “a foundation for things to come.” Hello haven’t said what shape the things to come might take, but since the Foundation announcement makes restates the point made in September; that the studio has been listening to grievances, should mean that Hello will eventually make good on some of the features and content that was teased in some of the early promotional material.
The discussion around No Man’s Sky since release has been intense and dramatic. We have been quiet, but we are listening and focusing on improving the game that our team loves and feels so passionately about.
I’ve been looking for a good excuse to get into No Man’s Sky again after having bounced off it on the couple of occasions I’ve tried. Hopefully The Foundation Update will be an incentive to give the game a fair crack of the whip, lest of course it be given an another relentless lashing.
